Today we are showing you a very special card with a sliding element . When you open the card, two strips are pulled along, which when completely opened create a previously punched out shape, behind which your desired motif is hidden. This way, it will surprise your loved ones when you open it.
What do you need for this?
Material:
-
1x sheet of household paper
-
2x sheets of design paper
Tools:
- Paper cutter with folding board
- Bone folder
- Scissors
- Ruler or set square
- Glue/Double-sided tape
- Washi Tape
Optionally:
- Die & punching machine
Step 1: Cut and fold the card
Take the sheet of house paper and cut a piece of paper measuring 30 cm x 15 cm for the base card. Place the paper with the long side against your folding board and fold it at 7.5 cm and 22.5 cm . Trace the fold lines of the card with a bone folder. Your base card is now finished, and will serve as the basis for the finished card with the slide element.
Step 2: Cut and fold individual parts for the sliding element
You can now cut a strip from the remaining sheet of household paper, which will ultimately become the drawer element.
We used a strip measuring 13 cm x 7.5 cm . However, you can vary the height depending on your desired motif.
Place the strip with the long side against your folding board and fold it at 1 cm and 12 cm .
The 1 cm wide strips will later serve as adhesive tabs.
Next, take a sheet of design paper.
Cut the paper to a size of 13 x 17 cm . This piece will ultimately become the window, which will be glued over the drawer element.
Place the paper with the long side against your scoring board and fold the paper at 1 cm and 16 cm .
The corners are then bevelled
In order for a motif to be visible through the window and the opening of the drawer at the end, it must be cut out of another sheet of design paper. We used a 12 cm x 12 cm piece of paper here. Make sure that your desired motif is in the middle here.
Step 3: Punch out the motif from the drawer and window
For the next step you need your desired punch.
The best option is symmetrical frame or label punches that include multiple sizes of the same shape.
You can also cut out your own free shapes using a circle cutter or cutter/scissors.
We chose the punch Ba0425 'deckled edge overlay large square'.
Take one of the larger cutting shapes and attach it to the middle of the cut piece of paper for the window ( 13 cm x 17 cm ) with some washi tape. Punch out the motif.
Now take a slightly smaller cutting die and the paper strip for the drawer element.
Here too, attach the punch in the middle and secure it again with some washi tape. Punch out the shape.
After you have punched out the shape, you have to cut the strip once in the middle through the punched out motif so that two equal-sized halves remain.
These will slide over each other later when the card is closed. When the card is opened, they will form the shape that was just punched out.
Step 4: Apply individual parts to the card
Now take your card and the cut-out pieces. Lay the card open in front of you. Now glue the cut-out motif into the middle of the card.
Next, take the two halves of the drawer element. These are glued to the lid flaps with the adhesive tabs at a distance of 2 cm from the fold line.
Next, the piece of paper with the window is glued onto the card. To do this, fold over the adhesive tabs and glue the paper onto the large surface of the card, leaving a distance of 1 cm from the fold lines. The window should now be centered over the shape of the slide element.
Hurray, you have already completed the most important element of the map!
Step 5: Decorate the card
Finally, you can cut out strips from the leftover pieces of design paper to decorate the card flaps. To do this, cut out two strips measuring 6 cm x 14.5 cm for the inside of the flaps.
For the outside, cut two strips measuring 7 cm x 14.5 cm .
Glue the cut strips into and onto the flaps. Congratulations, your card is ready. You can now decorate it with lots of other little things and give it to one of your loved ones.
We hope you enjoy making this recipe.
