In this post, we'll dive deep into the world of TCW pastes and share plenty of useful information, tips, and tricks that will help you get the most out of this versatile paste. Stencil Butter is a real eye-catcher both wet and dry, with a beautiful shimmer and shine. It's easy to apply with a spatula or palette knife and is available in a variety of colors to give your DIY project the perfect look.
Material used:
Working with stencils

The easiest way to apply Stencil Butter is with a palette knife. Use enough paste to fill all the stencil's recesses without leaving too much excess. Spread the paste in one direction, similar to butter on bread, and remove any excess by stroking it back into the container.
Make sure both the base and the stencil are securely in place—either by hand or with some washi tape. This will prevent slipping and allow you to work precisely.
Be sure to remove the stencil slowly and without wobbling to avoid unsightly stains that could ruin the pattern.
Allow enough time for the paste to dry to achieve its shiny effect.
Don't worry if the print isn't quite perfect! The stencil butter can easily be scooped up with the spatula and returned to the container. This makes the paste very economical and ensures it lasts a long time.
Mix pastes and create backgrounds

One of the great things about Stencil Butter is its blendability. You can mix colors wonderfully to create unique effects. It's best to mix the colors wet-on-wet. First, apply the first color with a palette knife and remove any excess paste to create a nice, even print.
Then, using a clean spatula, take a second color and spread it into the empty areas of the stencil. Be careful not to push any excess paste back into the pot to avoid mixing the colors.
Layering and diluting pastes

For even more creative possibilities, you can also apply the Stencil Butter in multiple layers. Allow the paste to dry thoroughly between each layer—at least half a day for optimal results. Again, the longer you wait, the better the result.
If you don't have watercolors or ink on hand, you can also dilute the Stencil Butter with a little water and apply it as sprinkles to your image. This way, you'll stay within a consistent color palette and achieve beautiful, soft effects.
Refill Ink

By experimenting with refill inks for stamp pads, we've achieved amazing results. Certain inks, like Delicata, add a subtle glitter, while others allow the paste to dry matte, creating a great contrast to the glossy finish of the Stencil Butter.
Possible combinations
Stencil Butter:
- With Brilliance – New color and light shimmer
- With Delicata – shine with lots of shimmer, the color may change
- With Stazon Pigment – Grainy, punctual "stony" effect
- With Versamagic Cloud White – Lighter base tone
- With Versamagic – Matte shade if you use a similar shade
Light & Fluffy :
- With Delicata/Brilliance – More matte with glitter
- With Stazon Pigment – Matt color, depending on the mixing ratio gray to black
- With Versamagic – Matte Finish
Tacky When Dry

The "Tacky When Dry" paste remains slightly tacky when dry, allowing you to create wonderful accents. Once dry, you can apply foil, gold leaf, powder, glitter, or similar materials, which will then adhere to the paste. You can press the materials on multiple times to achieve an elegant "vintage look."
It's important that the paste is completely dry before applying foil or other materials. Make sure the paste is completely transparent before proceeding with the next steps.
Structure through heat

Another creative trick is to use a heat gun to blow the paste. This creates bubbles in the stencil butter that, when popped, leave a stunning texture. Let this effect dry thoroughly, and you'll have a unique result!
With these tips and techniques, you are well equipped to work creatively with TCW Stencil Butter.
Experiment with different colors, mixing techniques and materials to make your next DIY project a real highlight.
